Yuuta still does.

And did you watch the finale at all? You can't make Rikka move past her chuunibyou - that's WHO SHE IS! Her true self! Not some delusional façade she puts up. Rikka is living in reality in her own special way. That was the whole point of her development and Yuuta's confession in the first place.

EDIT:
You can't "move past" who you are. You just can't.

I don't understand, the episode ends with Rikka firing imaginary powers to a police car, she is still living in her imaginary world, not in the real one

Well you saw how she was about her father dying right? freaking depressed, she found hope that she could see him again when she saw yuuta for the first time, and she could openly express how much she missed him by talking about the unseen horizon.

..I think.

also: I liked the ending to this.

She still lives in the chu2 world but at the same time, she also acknowledges the reality(that her father died) and she doesn't avoid it anymore.

The 11th episode was intense and then this last episode just knocked it down to some extent. I didn't really feel the emotions that much in the end. Mediocre Ending like most animes do but nonetheless good ending. 8/10

I enjoyed it for the lesson about escapism and all. I can't say if it is the best since its only anime I kept watching this season. However, I did feel like kyoani tried to throw in all drama in last 2 episodes. It had its bumps, but still entertaining.

I don't care about the kiss...
Why Dekomori entered in chuunibyou state again?
What happened with Isshiki and Kumin relationship? Absolutely nothing?
At the end Yuuta believes or not believes in the ethereal horizon and all those things?
How is Rikka going to interact with their classmates and other people? She is going to talk with them or she is going to ignore them again?

...goddamnit, and I was so looking forwards to a clever emotional resolution where the characters finally moved past their childhood, while realizing that they could still carry it with them without also having to act out...

Me too, I wanted the two main characters to...I don't know...Discover that they can live with passion in reality too

The character I enjoyed the most episode in and out was Mori Summer. Her progress through the show as the popular cheerleader to the ironic philosopher at the end was always a treat.

A show told from her point of view could be fairly interesting, the high school kid who is figuring out stuff faster than her peers, and because of that can end up being a bit of a sage. The ending with her response to Yuuta's "that's so deep" was classic. I also particularly liked her reunion with her middle school classmates as well as when she gave up around episode five as was cursing people again.

It's incredibly unexpected but yeah, Nibutani Shinka it's by far the most interesting character of this anime. By far

You can't expect them to resolve all things happened in the anime....
Dekomori didn't enter Chuunibyou state again kinda...At least she doesn't act like one in the end
Yuuta doesn't believe it, but she just want to help Rikka to admit her father death

Nibutani is fine at the end, but really annoying in the middle of the series

Wrong, Rikka has sense of reality now you can completely detect it when she talks to yuuta at the end of the episode at the balcony, the way she talks is different, they both just chuuni for fun like I was waiting.

I guess I need to go back and watch the final episode again. I mean, I thought it was alright, but some people here are saying it was the best of the series so I think I might have missed something. However, in the URW translation the... other guy friend says "Let me cop a feel" and I just about started dying. I thought the episode was a little sad, a little funny, but overall just confusing and not the ending I was hoping for.

Overall though, this series is definitely a 9/10 in my book, I will probably end up watching the entire thing over again sometime. Some of the episodes had me absolutely dying, and episode 11 almost brought tears to my eyes.

okay since no one seems to have seen my original post, why is everyone calling this such a happy ending?
i personally thought this needed to be a 24/26 episode anime, this ending felt too rushed, and is everyone forgetting these things?

Riika has moved away, all her stuff is gone and she lives with her mother and grandparents way away, and its never really show if she actually permanently moves back.
the club is closed down, permanently
riika never made ammends with sanae, they never explain this.
baldy and kumin were basically forgotten,
it jump cuts towards the end when riika and yuuta are being chased by a police car, and theyre on a single seater bike, there no way they didnt get caught (and if you think about it, yuuta would probably be in deep shit due to what he did)
every character except yuuta and riika didnt get a propper ending.

all in all though, despite this, i really liked this anime, solid 9 from me, best of the season i reckon.
it just really, REALLY needed to be 24-26 episodes long or it needs a second season

Did they really? From what we saw and from what we were told about Chuunibyou is that people never leave it behind fully, but rather use it in a more mature way and not to that extreme extent that i.e Rikka was using it, but more like Shinka who was about to join the drama club.

Tell me why you thought this ending was "oh so so bad".

13 pages already. Damn raw watchers so unfair.

The ending is not so great as the director said. I expected a bit more than this because the director said in an interview that maybe it's the best ending he has made. I'm not saying the ending is bad but it could have been better. The conclusion was reached. The answers was solved. ( Did it really? ) The ending is nearly perfect but it lacked impact for me. Maybe twelve episodes wasn't enough to sum up all the feelings in this series. I'm not so sure but in any case I hate the narration part at the end. The narration part was a bit lame and not KyoAni-like.

But still, the last episode has a lot of good points. Of course one of those is Dekomori without chuu-2 syndrome. Though what I like the most is Nibutani's role in this series. At first a lot loved her. Then hated her after her personality change. Then later on she became the reason this series succeeded. The letter Yuuta send to himself was also a great one. Didn't expect that and it was a cool way for Yuuta to realize his mistakes. Dekomori was so baws when she used their car to go to Rikka's place. Brought Rikka's eyepatch and shoes . Everyone expected Yuuta to go dark-flame master mode this episode. Still, his "Banishment this world" was badass. The representation of the past in this episode was remarkable. It was scattered throughout the episode yet it completely solved all the questions in this series.

The plot of this series was unique. Chuunibyou syndrome have never been a focus in an Anime before. The story progression was just simply awesome. At first, I thought it would be our everyday light-hearted Anime who makes us laugh every week. I was completely mistaken. I never thought it would have a huge drama and romance into it. It was simply outstanding. Words cannot express what I felt when the romance kicked in. It was spectacular. The battle scenes was also unexpected. I never knew KyoAni can make such good action scenes.

The art and animation is... you know... too good. It's KyoAni afterall. A lot are saying "KyoAni keeps making moe trash" ( they are completely wrong btw ) or something like that. We can't blame them if they hate moe but they can't deny that KyoAni is the best studio in terms of art and background animation. Not only the character design and background but also the battle animations was amazing. Put 10 genre in a series and KyoAni can still make it good.

The sound was ok. The opening theme didn't really catch my attention and we got some mind boggling opening in the first episode. The ending on the other hand was badass. It certainly reminded me of K-ON!'s endings. I always get eargasms when I hear Inside Identity.

The characters are perfect. Though a lot of us can say that Isshiki and Kumin is not really needed in this series, they were still helpful. The character designs was an eyecandy as always. Rikka, Dekomori and Nibutani certainly grew on me. I will miss them. Specially Nibutani, she had a few scenes compared to the others but she had the best role in the series.

Overall, I enjoyed this series VERY MUCH. It was delivered properly in a way I enjoyed pretty much every episode. Btw, why are you guys complaining about no kiss? They were like 16. Not 18+. Not necessary to kiss. They are not mature enough to frequently do so. Anyhow, I give this series 9/10( 8.5/10 real score but I'll just put 9 in my MAL score ). I say it was better than Hyouka and one of the best of KyoAni.

Hazero Real! Hajikero Synapse! BANISHMENT! This World! KyoAni Legacy.

That speech about the syndrome really came close to heart, this was a pretty light watch though, the romance plot kinda petered out in the last episode, there could have been more focus on the supporting cast as well. I feel only dekomori got some development, the rest were comic relief, kumin especially and shinka.....basically nothing.

Over all pretty good show and another notch on my list.

Somehow, this got worse and worse the more they focused on cheesy drama instead of mediocre comedy.
I should just stop trusting people and only watch things that I actually think will be good. Though that never works either. Just look at K or Psycho-Pass. So much wasted potential.

Edit: Oh and, I gotta admit that Dekomori was almost kind of okay in the last episode. She's been an incredible pain, but her acting almost normal was kind of bearable.
Protip: I don't really check the forums anymore, so if you want something, take it on my profile.

so rikka visit her father grave while yuuta still wonder cause of what he did to for making rikka normal yet also see dekomori being normal til see kumin being wicked eye?

give after talk with nibutani & more wonder til letter from his dark flame side to remind him & some i got it yuuta go bike ride to see rikka then quick meet kumin reveal wicked eye of rikka all cause it was yuuta that inspire rikka.

so after long bike yuuta all dark flame mode call for rikka she leap then ride together with everyone helping so yuuta full dark flame mode so give rikka one last goodbye to her dad.

after all everything back to chuuibyou-normal with rikka all better The End.

(overall series worth the watch from slice of life, fun, drama, emotion, & etc all truly a wonderful series to watch look forward if ever dub come out).

Pretty good ending to an awesome show. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece like Clannad or Kanon, but still very very good.
It had touching moments, especially in this episode and a lot of comedy.
It seems that Rikka moved back to where Yuuta lives but I am not 100% sure. Can anybody confirm this?

I didn't even expect a kiss since this is rare for KyoAni.

Would've been better if it was just a full-time comedy, IMO. I enjoyed the first couple of episodes a lot more than the latter part. The drama didn't really get to me, it seemed a bit forced, especially in the last episode, this one.
The whole thing about Rikka being unable to cope with her father's death... I don't buy it. Maybe if she was alone or younger or her family was a bunch of uncaring bastards it could work, but a girl her age, who has her family's support should be able to get through that kind of experience fine.

The protagonist was kinda dull too. At first he was a tsukkomi to Rikka's boke, sometimes to his own boke from the past and it was fun. But then the drama kicked in and I didn't get him after that. He kinda was trying to support Rikka but he was pro-chuunibyou at one time, playing the DFM and all, and then all of a sudden he tried to convince her to stop it... Didn't like him.
Same with The Popular Girl and The Twintails Girl. They didn't contribute anything to the story and were absolutely unnecessary. I mean we already have a former-chuunibyou and a current-chuunibyou, the main characters. Why would you need to duplicate them? Kumin-senpai wasn't needed also, but she was different from the rest of the cast, pretty much a mix between a comic-relief and a cute mascot. And she didn't try to steal the show, so she was fine.

The ending is just a slap to the face. What, so Rikka went back to the chuunibyou, despite finally accepting her father's death... What sense does that make? The whole point of the show, as I got it, was to show her coming to terms with reality and getting rid of the chuunibyou thanks to that. I really don't understand the ending, especially the narrator's BS about "being yourself = having chuunibyou". Isn't the whole thing about chuunibyou that you refuse to accept yourself with your flaws and sometimes powerlessness, thus playing somebody else? If you want to have a lesson to such a topic, make it "Yes, you're weak and you can't change reality with a blink, but stay true to yourself, know your strengths and your limits, and you can achieve a lot". Or something. That's what I expected.

8/10 (in my case meaning: "nice") for the comedy.

KYoani is a conservative studio. Which is thankful in a way because you don't have all the crappy pointless panty shots and other ecchi BS.

The flipside of that is Kyoani isn't big on doing certain things. In Japan kissing is a much more serious act than in western cultures. Public displays of affection are very rare save for basic hand holding.

Count on Kyoani to always play it safe. I don't mind it too much cause they're good at telling stories without resorting to cheap "sex sells" tactics. though they do seem to go for way too much "moe" now and then.

a little dissappointed at the end rushed, to much convenient things happen like rikka suddenly moves away , letter from DFM, no DFM battles , no proper closure for other characters.

Like others have said it would've been much better if it's full rom-com , no lol drama. But isomehow i really like episodes 11 and the scene where yuuta showed rikka the ethereal horizon to me is the best scene on the whole series.

so 8/10 from me

Pretty sweet ending episode, it could have been better but on the other hand it wasn't disappoionting either. Definitelly a lot better anime than Hyouka.

I like how they kept few surprises to the end, like Dekomori new hairstyle.
I like how we find out that her father death wasn't cause of her chuunibyo at all.
I like how they disbanded their club after all and moved further.
I like Nibutani Shinka in the end and her conversation with Yuuta was touching.
I am glad that chuunibyo is something you can never lose...

And, for those people.. no kiss is needed, not everything needs to be shown, your imagination is all you need - and I am happy they did it without this overused cliche. Well, old Yuuta was narrating the end so in the end they got together with Rikka anyway ;)

Hmmm.. I was debating on giving it a 9 or 10 but yeah this deserved a 10/10 from me, i liked this show from the first episode till the end although episode 11 was a little bit off. I was expecting kiss scenes but i quickly realised that it was kyoani who was the one animating this series so i guess i could only keep their kiss scene in my chuunibyou dreams :D

Anyway, a good way to wrap up the series, need moar dekomori with no chuuni there, she was awesome. With or without chuuni. And nibutani is easily the best character out there, from a bitch at the start to an amazing character at the end. Just great.

Overall, 10/10 great job kyoani, but please include some kiss scene next time :p
